Tumblin' Gap is a trio of Albany, NY musicians playing traditional old time instrumentals and songs typical of rural country string band music from the Appalachian Region of the United States during the first decades of the 20th Century. Their repertoire is drawn from the early days of live performances on radio which fostered the popularity of this music and birth of a new genre in the recording industry at that time, making household names of the Carter Family, Jimmy Rodgers and Uncle Dave Macon among countless others.

Tumblin' Gap is composed of Paul Draper (banjo), Janet Foster (guitar) and Mark Schmidt (fiddle). Each have played in the Albany area for many years, performing on stage in various old time bands, teaching classes and playing for dances and at house parties in the old time tradition. They bring an eclectic mix of toe-tapping dance tunes and soulful vocals reminiscent of the 1920s and 1930s gleaned from old 78 rpm records...and performed without the scratches!
